What a Dutiful company report looks like: J Sainsbury plc, line by line

Before you pay $3 for a report on a company you choose, here is a real one. This report on J Sainsbury plc was generated on 2026-10-18 from free official public sources, in exactly the structure your report will have. The full report is online (also as a PDF), and a second one covers Vodafone.

The assessment, up front

The report opens with the conclusion: "No compliance red flags identified from free public sources. Active, long-established listed retailer with current filings." Four supporting lines follow: registry status and filing currency, the sanctions result, the charges tally, and the ownership note. Each is expanded, with sources, in the sections below it.

1. Registry profile

Status (active, public limited company), incorporation date (10 November 1922), registered office, industry code, and filing currency. Every line ends with a numbered citation: Companies House, the UK official register, with the retrieval date. Nothing is asserted without a source a reader can open.

2. Officers

67 officers on record, 56 of them historic resignations, with serving officers listed by name and a pointer to the source for the full list.

3. Ownership

Persons with significant control: the PSC register entry is shown, and when an exemption applies (as here, because shares are listed on a UK regulated market) the report says so instead of leaving the field blank.

4. Charges and secured debt

14 charges outstanding out of 32 registered, from the registry record.

5. Sanctions screening

The company is screened against the OFAC SDN list and the FCDO UK Sanctions List, with the date the lists were downloaded stated in the report. Here: no match. EU and UN lists are not screened, and the report says that too.

6. News and enforcement scan

The report calls this section "Adverse media and enforcement": a scan of news and web sources for enforcement actions and related findings, each item cited.

7. What we could not check

The report ends with its own limits: data the registries do not publish, checks outside coverage, and anything that needs a paid bureau or a lawyer. A report that hides its gaps is marketing; this one lists them.

Why citations are the product

A bare risk score asks you to trust the scorer. A cited report lets you verify: every finding carries its source and retrieval date, so a person, an auditor, or another agent can check any line against the register in seconds. That is what "Research you can cite" means in practice.
